About MDBA Library
The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) Library is a publicly available data catalogue enabling search and access to MDBA publications, reports and data assets. The platform contains summary information and links where applicable to MDBA outputs authorised for public release.
The MDBA Library complements and is linked with content available on other MDBA websites:
- The main MDBA website displays MDBA news, information and communications. Please note we are currently in a transition phase, integrating the MDBA Library with the MDBA website in coming months. The website will continue to be the primary source of MDBA publications during this period.
- The MDBA Spatial Library which contains authorised spatial data and is linked to the MDBA Library.
This site builds upon the widely adopted, open-source data management system Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network (CKAN).
About the MDBA
The MDBA is an independent statutory agency in the Australian Government. We are responsible for planning the Basin's water resources, with all planning decisions made in the interest of the Basin as a whole. We work with Basin states, industries and communities to manage the Murray–Darling Basin's water resources. Please visit About us | Murray–Darling Basin Authority for additional information.
Understanding MDBA products and assets
In the MDBA Library, Data Products are registered as a single entry and contain references to one or more Data Assets that comprise them. A data asset is an individual file of information, such as a single document, spreadsheet or spatial data.
Finding data on the dataset catalogue
The Portal has three main ways to search for data:
- Using keyword searches, then applying filters to refine results.
- Selecting the data products tab and browsing for data products and assets.
- Navigating to the "Explore" page to search for featured topics.
Licensing
Typically, documents and data on this system will be listed with a Creative Commons Licence, which means you are required to attribute the work in the manner specified. However, restrictive licences provided with some documents and datasets may limit their use and must be adhered to.
Learn more about licensing.
If a document does not have a licence, then you need to consult with the author to obtain a relevant licence before you can attribute that piece of work.
The MDBA Library is powered by metadata
Metadata is the information collected alongside data or reports that provides additional context about it. For example, the temporal and spatial bounds of the collected data, as well as understanding what, where and who published the data, and any limitations on its use.
How is metadata defined?
The MDBA conforms with the DCAT, and ANZLIC metadata standards outlined by data.gov.au.
The metadata collected aligns to a schema used to similar online data catalogues in Australia, and the corresponding metadata standards. This allows information to be discoverable and be easily shared.
