2025 Basin Plan Evaluation: Basin Governments Insights Workshop

The 2025 Basin Plan Evaluation (BPE) will assess the effectiveness, appropriateness and impacts of the Basin Plan 2012 (the Plan). The Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is responsible for delivering the 2025 Basin Plan Evaluation, and will draw on multiple information sources and lines of evidence, including:

  • The matter reporting required under Schedule 12 of the Plan.
  • Other reviews and inquiries, including the Productivity Commission’s Murray–Darling Basin Plan Implementation review 2023.1

However, these reporting mechanisms and information sources do not cover all Basin Plan implementation activities for which Basin governments have responsibility for delivering (either partially or in full). Examples of such activities include:

  • Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism (SDLAM)
  • Bridging the Gap water recovery
  • Northern Basin Toolkit.

To capture Basin governments’ experiences and insights from delivering these implementation activities, the MDBA organised an intergovernmental workshop: the 2025 Basin Plan Evaluation – Basin Governments Insights Workshop (the workshop). The workshop was an opportunity for Basin governments to provide feedback into the 2025 Basin Plan Evaluation on those implementation activities they have responsibility for delivering but may not have another specific reporting mechanism.
