Decision makers often face very complex systems and overwhelming amounts of information, making it hard for them to make good decisions. The sheer volume and complexity of this information creates problems. Too much or irrelevant data can lead to confusion, mistakes, and misjudgements, making it harder for managers to understand what's really happening and make effective decisions.

This research looked at the thousands of indicators used to manage water in the Murray–Darling Basin and created a scientific method to narrow them down to a smaller, more useful set.
