Murray–Darling Basin Sustainable Rivers Audit – Salinity review

This report (as part of the 2025 Sustainable Rivers Audit) provides insights into two early questions concerning stream salinity in the 2025 SRA:

• How does salinity affect the health of the Basin?

• What is the current condition of the Basin?

As this report is intended to set the scene for Phase II of the SRA, the report also provides:

• Insights into relevant data and current State reporting that could contribute to an efficient 2025 SRA process with regards to stream salinity

• Recommendations on the next steps towards landing on appropriate reference condition and current condition indicators

This report is not intended to be a comprehensive literature review of salinity, but rather using findings in scientific studies to provide succinct responses to the key questions listed above.
