Synthesis of current knowledge on bank erosion along the River Murray

MD-WERP tactical project: Riverbank stability and erosion along the River Murray

Project Lead: Streamology

This project focussed on the River Murray main channel, spanning from the confluence with the Swampy River in the upper end of the system to the Murray Mouth at the end of the system. The project developed:

  • A couple of animations, as a different form of communication to support community understanding of the natural erosion processes, how human activities are influencing erosion, and how we can help reduce erosion.
  • A poster that shows the key drivers of erosion along the Murray River in 2023, demonstrating that at this point in time, there was no consistent driver for erosion along the length of the river.
  • A framework for strategic monitoring of riverbank erosion along the entire River Murray main channel.
