Summary:
The hydrology theme (theme 2) enhanced hydrological knowledge and advanced modelling capacity to inform water resources management and planning in the Murray–Darling Basin. The research in this theme focused on event-specific (rather than long-term) flow characteristics, specifically the prediction of low flows and the spatial extent of floodplain flows. It explained and quantified changes to flows in response to changing climate and catchment conditions. It demonstrated the potential of water forecasting to improve water management and explored groundwater use as an adaptation to climate change.
